The clients arrived with two containers of furniture and a plan that fought them at every turn: a stair dropped into the middle of the living room, a kitchen sealed off from everyone, and eleven doors in a single corridor.
We reorganised the plan around a single north-lit spine. The stair moved to the party wall and became a solid oak object you walk past rather than around; the kitchen opened to the dining room through a nine-foot marble threshold that doubles as a homework table.
Materials are deliberately few — white-oiled oak, lime plaster, Rajshahi silk, unlacquered brass that has already gone honey-coloured around the handles.
